The East Lancashire Railway
The East Lancashire Railway is one of the North West of England's top attractions to visit. British Rail passenger services ended on the Bury to Rawtenstall in 1972.
In 1968, prior to the closure of the line The East Lancashire Preservation Society was formed with a view to keeping the line operational.
After years of negotiation with British Railways we finally saw the line re-open on the 25th July 1987 between Bury and Ramsbottom.
Today The East Lancashire Railway operated between Rawtenstall and Haywood and can boast being one of the best in the U.K.
