Spent the day to The Queen Street Mill and Textile Museum on 31st August 2014. Demonstrations in the Weaving Shed and Warehouse of the machinery used by the mill workers and when you are told of the conditions they worked in, you soon realise that the life of a mill worker was not an easy one. The Engine House is the home of the horizontal tandem engine built by William Roberts Co. in 1894, and is really impressive when you watch it operating. Friendly Staff are always ready to answer any questions you might have. If you have an interest in the history of the Mills or how we used to live and work, a visit to The Queen Street Mill Textile Museum is highly recommended, and very enjoyable. |
